Exhibition by Tianji Zhao
Opening: 19:00, 30fth. June 2018
Location: Franzensgasse 6/1a, 1050 Wien
Tianji Zhao was born in Beijing, China and received her MA in Fine Art from MaHKU in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Her practice engages the immediate surroundings through fragile materials and hidden gestures. By allowing external forces to enter and take over, the erratic and accidental become part of the work as it transforms or fades away. She explores both social and natural landscape in search of a dialogue with its inhabitants: from a marketplace, a temple, a teahouse, a factory, to a mountaintop and the night sky.
RED WHITE MANTRA is based on her encounter with the Tibetan community in Vienna during her one-month stay at Medo. For this exhibition, you are invited to come and complete the project by bringing the works back into the city.
Stories are made up of fragments, constantly growing, getting replaced, being forgotten.
Stories are mantras, retelling keeps them alive, enhances their energy, allowing them to crystallize or dissolve.
There are 1001 stories at the peak of storytelling, with only a handful left in the end.
Your stories enter my stories becomes our stories.
Or is it theirs?
