In the era of the 90s, the media for listening to music was not too much, there was only a radio and tape player. Cassette was something that was very hype at that time, the latest release was very much awaited. based on that moment, there are habits that emerge and there is an element of innovation or DIY culture, everyone has a favorite song. in the cassette the position of your favorite song is very random, to choose it you have to skip it in a very popular way by rotating it manually with a pencil, swinging your hand around like a helicopter.
This moment was very interesting and made an impression in my memory, like another skill, strangely the feeling of finding the track I liked seemed to spread from head to hand as if I could find out the position of the song in the order of the tape. sometimes even if it's not exactly right on the track you want the hand to stop playing, at least a few seconds before or after the desired track. the event was very interesting to me because of body movements such as having a sense of memory. that moment became the basis for me to make an installation work in 2 and 3 dimensions, using cassette, tape players, and color pencils.
I visualize the movement of the tape rotation through colored pencils. the content of the cassette is a recording of some events that have been shown in ethnictro (the art space where I found and organized) by re-recording them trough a digital file into a cassette, which I compose with the method of slicing and knitting. This work is combined with my memory where listening activities and motorIc movements to my daily memory now as multidisciplinary artists and also space organizers. (Aii Wijaya)
